More showers yesterday morning, measured 12 mm. This brings the total rainfall for the first 2 days of Feb. to 71 mm or 2.8 inches. Today there are just broken clouds around with no rainfall. The upper air must be warming.

Friday, February 1, 2013

A strong Cold Front is situated to the north of Belize. This is lifting warm moist air flowing in from the Caribbean causing moderate to heavy rain showers from low clouds over Belize. Rainfall measured today 34 mm or 1.35 inches. The ground is pretty saturated after the January rainfall of 246 mm or 9.7 inches. Today's rain brings the total for the year so far up to 11 inches. The dry season should be starting soon.

Saturday, January 26, 2013

With the LOW now south of Belize over Honduras, a Thunder Shower was generated and moved from east to west across Belmopan between 1600 hr and 1645 hr. This shower produced about 1/4 inch of rain. This brings the total rainfall for today up to 0.65 inches.
Sunday Update: There was a trace of rain around sunrise 2 mm, the rest of the day was sunny and warm. The rest of the week should be nice.
The center of the mid-upper level LOW has not yet weakened and has drifted to the SE towards Honduras. This morning we are getting some continuous light rain.

Friday, January 25, 2013

The sky has been overcast for the past few days with only a trace of rain. Today there is a mid level LOW situated over Guatemala. This is producing some very light rain this afternoon over Belize. Measured only 3.5 mm.

Thursday, January 17, 2013

A strong Cold Front passed through Belmopan late in the afternoon with gusty North wind and light rain. Preceding this front was a weak squall line before noon which produced just over 1/2 inch of rain. The next few days will be cloudy and cool.

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

The area of moisture that has been surrounding Belize since the beginning of the month is finally dissipating. The total rainfall for the month so far is 6.7 inches. This is more rain than all of November and December combined. The tropical wave responsible for the rain is moving away and we are now in a fresh SE air flow behind the wave.

Sunday, December 30, 2012

A poorly defined Cold front lies to the north of Belize and this triggered some late afternoon showers and into the early evening. Measured 6 mm of rain, just barely enough to dampen the ground.

Thursday, December 27, 2012

No rain today, just low clouds. The system mentioned previously has weakened and the chance of rain is now very low. The upper air contains little moisture so the future outlook for rain is not good.

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

There is a broken trough from Cuba to Honduras that developed during the day but is moving westward very slowly. The cold front that was crossing the Gulf of Mexico seems to be dissipating. There could be some showers tonight. Will report in the morning.
