If there is rain coming to Belize then it might actually be from the Pacific side of Central America again similar to 2 weeks ago. The Caribbean itself is still pretty quiet as shown in the water vapour image where the red is very dry air between South America and Africa. There was a Tropical Wave headed this way but it has gone further to the south and weakened. I do not believe the real rainy season has started yet.

A Tropical Wave is creeping slowly westward and may reach Belize this weekend. I believe most of the impact will be to the south of Belize. Will know better about this on Thursday. Storm Amanda is now losing strength as it moves northward into cooler water.

Hurricane Amanda is moving very slowly to the north. Now at 13.7N and 111.7 W with wind at 100 kph. ( max 135 mph). Weather in Belize still suuny and breezy.

First Tropical Storm of 2014 in eastern Pacific, Amanda at 11.6 N 110.3 W. Not a threat to land. Highest wind now at 91 kmh on the north side. The weather for Belize is improving, sunny and warm.

A long trough runs all the way from southern Mexico right down the full length of Central America.
Again today moisture from the Pacific is being transported over to Belize. There have been frequent showers all afternoon. Have measured 11 mm by 6 PM. There is dry air all through the Gulf of Mexico but this dry is being blocked from moving south to Belize.

Upper Level moisture is being transported over Belize from the Pacific side of Central America. This is causing outbreaks of showers over Belize. There was some heavy showers north and west of Belmopan this afternoon. In Belmopan I measured about 10 mm of rain. The outlook is for this pattern to continue.

The Jet Stream has really pushed far to the south for this time of year almost the third week in May. Today was cloudy and very cool, very unusual weather for May which is normally very hot. Rainfall from this cold front was about 18 mm over a 2 day period. For the month of May so far, 70 mm of rain.

 A very aggressive late season Cold Front was approaching the Yucatan this morning and is now almost all the way to Belize. The front should start affecting Belize tomorrow Thursday. There is some moisture moving up from the south so whatever rain may occur will most likely arrive late on Friday. Will be interesting to see what happens.

An interesting situation is developing. An area of moisture is in the east Caribbean and slowly drifting westward. A Cold front is half way across Texas and pushing to the south east. These two systems could end up meeting near Belize sometime later this week. The moon is full on May 14. All this could mean some serious rainfall by the weekend.

The Upper Air jet stream pattern has been almost stationary for the past 4 days. The centre of the anticyclone circulation is directly over Belize. Any rain is being directed into southern Mexico and west Guatemala. Any rain for Belize should start occurring a few days after the next Full Moon.
