The Arctic air that was previously over eastern Asia has now rotated around to invade North America. However a west to east High Pressure ridge is sort of blocking the cold from pushing down into Central America keeping Belize fairly warm. There is just some mid level cloud being carried up from the southwest with just a few sprinkles of rain here and there.

The coldest Arctic air continues to circulate over to Europe and Asia. Europe is having terrible weather right now. The Upper Air wind speed over Russia is over 300 kph.
Here in Belmopan we had 25 mm of rain last night due to the moist air flow being transported up from Honduras. However this morning dry air has returned and it is warm and sunny. The system responsible for the circulation is a strong High Pressure centered at 24.0 N 78.6 W or off the north coast of Cuba.

High Pressure just off eastern Cuba is keeping the Caribbean clear this morning. The was a trace of rain overnight in Belize. The cold front is weakening and will be gone tonight. North America is relatively mild compared to Asia as seen in the Upper Air Polar winds at the 10 mb level. Northern India is unusually cold with heavy snow.

Light rain developed overnight and measured 0.58 in or about 14 mm by noon of today. The band of showers has stalled off the Belize coast as the hot dry air is attempting to push westward. So now there is a battle going on between the cold air and the hot. Will see who is winning in the morning. The cool rain last night was great for the garden.

Belize is between a band of high cloud to the north and west and very dry air to the south east. There is a cold front that is currently moving off the coast of Texas and beginning to cross the Gulf of Mexico. The cold front is expected to be close to Belize by Wednesday night. Will follow the progress. The whole Caribbean is very dry.

There was no rain at all from the system mentioned in the last report. The system went north missing Belize completely. Late this afternoon some high cloud moved across Belize from the southwest. The Caribbean basin is very dry. According to the Caribbean Climate Change group (the CCCCC) the coming dry season may be very severe. There could be very little rainfall over the next 5 months. This is not good news. Here in Belize the 2014 rainfall is already well below normal. I may have to abandon plans for having any sort of productive garden.

Most of the moisture associated with the weak trough of low pressure east of Belize appears to be moving up to the northwest and bypassing Belize completely. The bottom end of the trough may sweep towards Belize in the morning producing some light rain but I expect no more than an few mm, not enough to bring relief from the very dry conditions.

The weather here in Belmopan has been sunny and cool since my last report. It has been very dry. Rainfall is well below normal. Plants in my garden are already suffering due to lack of rain. There is a weak trough creeping slowly westward towards Belize. It is surrounded by very dry air. Will see how this looks in the morning.
